The location Ulm

On 5 February, travelling exhibition made its first stop on its second leg – at the Danube Swabian Central Museum (DZM) in Ulm. During the evening opening, architectural sociologist and curator Máté Tamáska guided guests through the exhibition and opened up exciting perspectives on central ports along the Danube – historical intersections of trade, architecture and culture. In the coming weeks, visitors will continue to have the opportunity to gain insights into these places of transfer through photographs, posters and works of art.

The DZM and the IdGL are partner institutions with many years of cooperation experience and thematic similarities in communicating Danube Swabian history and culture in their intercultural contexts.

Exhibition catalogue

The ports of the Danube have inspired far less romantic literature than the seaports of the world. An exhibition catalogue cannot remedy this lack of imagination, but it can remind us that the ports are an integral part of the cityscapes along the Danube. From the German Danube to the delta, a series of places unfolds before our eyes, all speaking a common, characteristic architectural language – a language whose form results from a shared task: receiving ships, goods, people and ideas from distant regions.
